You are Safe with Us

As a non-profit founded and operated by queer, neurodivergent, disabled, and female-presenting individuals, we have made it a priority to create a safe and accessible space for all children. Here’s how:

While at our programs, students will be referred to by their preferred name and pronouns. These may change as kids experiment with gender expression. We at POE take time to create an environment where kids feel safe to test the waters of different genders and gender expression if they want to.

Donate your empty bottles and cans!

P.O.E. is always looking for more ways to make a positive impact on the environment, and one of the ways we do that is through BottleDrop Give, a new way to raise funds while keeping our parks litter-free. BottleDrop Give allows non-profits like P.O.E. to collect your empty bottles and cans and recycle them to help raise money for new and exciting things like updating and upgrading our gear, field trips, and more! You can also donate directly to our BottleDrop Give account through the BottleDrop website, and support us and the planet with a few quick and convenient clicks.

My child loves the freedom to choose creative activities and free play within the safe and caring atmosphere that the instructors provide! As a parent, I love how the after school and camp programs allow my child to develop confidence and independence in our local neighborhood. I credit this program as a big part of allowing them to develop social skills and a sense of self.

“I’ve been with POE since before it was POE! The dedicated counselors worked tirelessly to maintain continuity of care when our previous after-school program suddenly dissolved. The team handled everything with transparency and professionalism. Since then, the team (regardless of who was working at the time) has been dependable and flexible, a godsend for working parents.

My son has gained confidence and social skills through this program, and I absolutely feel like they see him as an individual and care about him. They balance exploration and independence with responsible supervision and limits. Highly recommend this program!”

“Portland Outdoor Explorers welcomes kids as they are. The tight-knit, inclusive atmosphere brings kids with diverse interests and personalities together to form friendships, go on adventures, and simply enjoy each others’ company. Whether it’s for a few hours after school, during one of PPS’ in-service days, or during summer break, POE fosters an environment that lets kids be themselves.”
