Spooky season is upon us, but there’s no need to fear with POE here. We have a frightfully exciting month ahead of us, filled with special events, ghostly crafts, a new indoor space, and a scary amount of new things on the horizon.

If you haven’t signed up for October After-school programs, now is the time! Please click the button below to register today!
As the weather begins to change, our clothes will have to change with it

The Portland Outdoor Explorers believe that there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. As fall and fall weather starts to settle across the Pacific Northwest, our children are going to need an extra layer of two, especially if they’ll be playing outside during a chill.
While we do have an indoor space we utilize in inclement weather, it is part of our ethos to be outside as often as is safe. Therefore, we ask that parents and guardians equip their young adventurers with weather-appropriate gear, and ensure their name is labeled clearly on all their items.
No School Days for Portland Public Schools
October has three no school days this month:
Friday, October 10th
Thursday, October 30th &
Friday, October 31st
POE will be open for our full day camp on each of those days from 8:30am to 5:30pm.
As of right now, we cannot say whether we will be utilizing our indoor or outdoor spaces for these days. Please keep an eye out for emails detailing our plans for the day closer to the date, and of course feel free to reach out with any questions you may have to our info email at info@pdxoutdoorexplorers.com
To register for any of these special dates, please click the link below, and scroll to the bottom of the page.
You may also sign up for more than one day at a time.
Special Events
Wednesday, October 22nd is an early release day for Portland Public Schools. Schools will be releasing at 11:50am and we will be there to pick students up for an extended camp day filled with fun and frights! There is no special process to register for this day versus any other Wednesday.

Join us for an exciting event this coming Friday, October 17th for our next Guardians’ Night Off. This month, by popular demand, we will be watching the Lego Batman movie, while also playing Legos, eating pizza and pop, and playing games.
Stuffies, pillows, pajamas, and blankets are welcome!
We do NOT recommend bringing your own Lego sets unless you intend to donate them to POE, as we cannot guarantee that each piece will be able to remain separate from our Lego bricks.
This event runs from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at our indoor location at Rose City Park United Methodist Church.
Registration is $50 per child. We invite children 4-14 to join us!
A Scary Good Halloween!
As we mentioned, October 31st, Halloween, is going to be a no school day for Portland Public Schools, and thus a full day camp for Portland Outdoor Explorers!
We’ll meet from 8:30am to 5:30pm that day. Please keep an eye out for an email detailing whether we will be utilizing our indoor or outdoor locations closer to the date.
Students are invited to come dressed in costumes, or borrow some of ours!
We’ll have an array of sweet treats available, but students are also welcome to bring plenty of their own candies and spooky stories to share.
While we all enjoy a good, safe fright, it is our plan to ensure the day remains child-friendly and age-appropriate. If you have any questions regarding costumes, treats, which scary stories are acceptable, or anything else, please feel free to email us at info@pdxoutdoorexplorers.com, and don’t forget to register below!
Other Exciting News!
Portland Outdoor Explorers is going to be changing our logo!
While we all love Edgar, the Raven, it’s time for a change. This change has been a long time coming. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to create a logo that truly encompasses us as a company. We’re not ready to reveal the final product just yet, but we’re eagerly working toward the day when we can.
Rest assured: we may be getting a bit of a face lift, visually, but we’re still going to be the same non-profit you know and love. As of right now, none of our policies, rules, or requirements are changing. However, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at info@pdxoutdoorexplorers.com
